Seeing Through the Eyes of Others

by Andrea Heckman

These photos strive to honor the rich cultures of the past, our current heroes, and our hopes and faith in the next generations. May we learn from them, listen to their wise words, and be mentors to those not yet born. The message is to never lose the ability of critical thinking nor the eye for beauty, compassion, and a sincere attempt to understand those who look, talk, and appear so different from us. My hope is that through these images, we notice that our similarities are greater than our differences, less foreign than we imagined. May we see beyond our own realities and remember more than we forget.
